Hello, here is a report on the status and plans for SEE. The Articles were officially filed with the Secretary of the State of Texas on July 21, 1998. Our organizational meeting is scheduled for September 13, 1998. Draft minutes provided by the co-op lawyer outline the organizational meeting proper. This accepts the Articles, adopts the bylaws, elects a president and secretary/ treasurer, adoption of bank resolution, and various nits. First National Bank of Bastrop to send us papers. They were selected on the basis that they have the largest Internet site of Bastrop Banks. There will immediately be a second meeting, less rigidly structured. We will adopt application form, membership contract, accept ourselves as members, make minimal payments towards membership fees and issue membership certificates. Also elect remaining officers and possibly split secretary from treasurer. Adopt a resolution authorizing purchase of land. The post office is sending us forms for opening a PO Box. We could also have a box on Route 2 which would be closer than Bastrop, but likely 2000 feet from our houses. This will be checked later. We have the IRS form to get a taxpayer ID number, which we need to open a bank account. We can get the number by telephone, so we'll do it on September 14. The first person plans to move into the area in the last half of September. The second person plans to move in October. The bank account will be opened. Some time in here we need to collect some full membership fees. A week or so after the second person moves, Sam and I will take a trip down and while we are there, the four of us will
Late November or Early December, two other expected members arrive in the area. Their plans for housing will depend on their appraisal of options when they get there. We do not expect to live in the mobile homes long term, but some of us (and any volunteers)will be building something. The mobile homes will remain as initial housing that people can afford for starting, and as guest rooms. Current plans on physical plant are basically too fluid to proceed for several of the physical items. Seeing the mobile home market and talking to Sanders should crystalize them. Insurance depends on just what the Cooperative owns, what individuals own. We have a draft license contract that we want to get Van Guilder to review. (A license is somewhat like a lease, but the licensee owns the house and has no legal interest in any of the land.) If this contact is ok, then individuals can own some houses while the cooperative owns others.
Physical things needing doing once our housing is crystalized:
